Community News & Information

04/28/08:

2nd District Clean-up Day Successful:  Saturday morning, April 26th, found city employees Marvin Haycraft, Lee Slaughter and several DOC volunteers riding the streets of District 2, collecting excess yard waste and debris, as scheduled by the Block Watch committee.  Councilman Terry Pierce said he spoke with Haycraft upon completion of the project and was pleased to hear everything went well.  He also stated that he would like the city to offer this service to the residents twice a year, as it looks so much better when it is cleaned up.

Block Watch coordinator, George Roberts, reported there was wide-spread participation, in response to their members’ efforts to get word of the event to District 2 residents. This was evidenced by the mounds of tree branches and junk at curbsides late in the week.  George had out-of-town duties for two days, but was happy to see everything was nicely cleared away when he returned Saturday afternoon.

George expressed his gratitude to the city employees and volunteers who ensured the project was completed as planned.
