Charlestown Walking with the Stars

The Charlestown Walking with the Stars program is an additional commitment form the community leaders, "Our Stars", to improve the health status of our citizens.  A variety of leaders will meet every Tuesday to lead us on a walk.  As the program progresses we will increase the length of the walks to push everyone to continue to develop their own personal fitness.

The walks are designed to increase physical activity, promote weight loss, and take a healthier approach to living.  Our "Stars" will be available to answer questions, tell you about themselves and their role within the community.  You can meet the mayor, ask your local hospital or find out how the Charlestown Police are keeping you safe.  Meet our community's new exercise leaders and see what the School Board has planned for the upcoming school year.  Students, come out and take a walk with your teachers.  While you strive to meet your own personal goals, talk to our local business owners and mangers, see what they have planned for our community.

Most importantly, take a walk - relax - have fun and learn something new!

BE PREPARED:

Wear walking shoes and comfortable, protective clothing.  Select comfortable footwear and dress in loose-fitting, layered clothing.  Bright colors or reflectors are a must when walking at night.

WARM UP

Spend five minutes walking slowly to warm up muscles.  Increase your pace until you feel warm.  This will reduce your risk of injury. (Do this prior to the scheduled start time).

STRETCH

Stretch your muscles after warming up for about 5 minutes before walking.  (Do this prior to the scheduled start time)

GO!

Re-set your pedometer and get ready to enjoy a brisk walk in the beautiful park with your local Stars.

Due to much colder temperatures, Walk with the Stars, Walk with the Mayor, Fitness Boot Camps and all Outdoor walk/run/cycle groups will be suspended until further notice.  Please continue to check this website or contact City Hall for updates and modifications.

Thank you for your patience and participation.
