Jennings
Plaza / Charlestown Square: |
|
Jennings
Plaza, commonly known as the "City Square" is the center of the city and
used daily for everything from lunch breaks of downtown merchant employees,
to the Farmer's Market every Thursday evening during the Spring and Summer
months, to the Founder's Day Celebration, revivals and school pep rallies.
The Plaza's center piece is it's gazebo, with it's powerful memorial to
military heroes on one side and a holiday house on the other. History
fills the air when walking the plaza, especially for those citizens who have
a lifetime of memories centered by the square plaza. Jennings Plaza
also honors one of the city's most influential residents, Jonathan Jennings,
Indiana's first Governor. The plaza is designated as a city park and
is open to the public from dawn to 11pm each day.

Greenway
Park: |

Greenway
Park is located just west of the City Square and Jennings Plaza and serves as
the community's main recreational park. Greenway park includes lighted
pedways, a shelter house, picnic tables, playground equipment, Pleasant Run
Creek, a basketball court, a gazebo and plenty of green space for leisure
activities. Greenway Park hosts the Founder's
Day Celebration every year and numerous family gatherings, concerts and
school outings. Greenway Park is located between Market Street (IN SR
#3) to it's east and Spring Street to it's west. Greenway Park is also
full of history and tradition where it has served as the city's central park
for more than 100 years.

Church
Street Park: |

The
Church Street Park was recently constructed and serves some of the
recreational needs of the northern sections of the city. The park is
the result of a grant monies that is assisting the city increase and improve
it's green spaces and recreational options. It is located at the
corner of Market Street (IN SR #3) and Church Street, just two blocks from
the Medical Center of Southern Indiana. The park is open sun up to sun
down daily and provides area residents picnic and shelter house facilities
as well as playground equipment and a basketball court.

John
K. Bowen Civic Center / Charlestown Little League Park: |

John
K. Bowen Civic Center was dedicated in honor of a past mayor of the City and is
home to numerous activities on a daily basis, including open gym sporting events
such as basketball, youth dances and activities, weekend bingo, classes and
meetings, daycare and sporting clinics. The Civic Center has a web site
with more information, including a calendar of events, which is located at http://members.tripod.com/ctowncc/index.htm.
The Civic Center is located off Monroe Street at 150 Steve Hamilton Drive on the
same grounds as the Charlestown Little League Park. The Little League Park
has recently grown and experienced improvements, for years it has served as the
staging grounds for many of boy and girl who's interest in baseball took
