VOLUNTEER PROGRAMSOpportunities are available for older adults to provide meaningful service to the community. Coordinators recruit and train volunteers to help in the center. Opportunities may include clerical work, hosting the games on recreation days and help with newsletter.EXERCISE ROOM (opened in September) An exercise room will be set up for a variety of video exercise and fitness training This will be available each Tuesday from 9:00 A.M... – 3:00 P.M. Treadmill, Stationary Bicycle and other equipment are needed for the exercise room. WALKING PROGRAM Walking inside track will be available for walkers during cold weather. City Walking Group during warm weather around the downtown square and Greenway park and Charlestown State Park COMPUTER ASSISTANCE (Planned to open in November) A room set up to enhance your skills on a computer. Learn internet skills, word and spreadsheet... A grant has been submitted for the equipment. LIFE ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS AND EDUCATION The Senior center will offer a wide range of educational programs to engage the varied interests and needs of consumers. The programs are selected and designed on the basis of input from participating seniors. The center programs include support and encouragement to older adults in making informed decisions about consumer health issues. Topics are limited only by the imagination of participating older adults. Some suggestions for program are : Senior Safety Build Birdhouses Scrap Booking Medications Living Wills Family’s Ancestry or genealogy Grandchildren, a new generation Program dates and times to be announced as developed. SENIOR SINGING DRAMA AND MUSIC Drama productions by the Rose Island Players will take place at the Arts and Enrichment Center. Drama groups are welcome from various communities. Enjoy Singing Seniors sing a long. We will host concerts with local and area talent performing at times to be announced. CRAFTS, SEWING, QUILTING, SCRAP BOOKING Planned craft activities for those who enjoy crafts, scrap booking ,sewing and quilting. Items can be donated to local hospital, sold at fundraiser or individually used by senior citizens. SENIOR SOFTBALL TEAM Get out your softball shoes and glove and have a ball! Charlestown Senior Citizen, Inc. is looking for men and women who love to play. We welcome all fitness and experience levels, as long as you’re 50 or better! We believe in teamwork – sluggers can request a runner to cover the bases. For more information, Contact Bill Resch , 812 -256-0552 ARRANGE OUT-OF-TOWN TRIPS Day Trips to area attractions ,shopping or to places that will provide enjoyment for and enrich the lives of our seniors. LECTURES ON GARDENING Lectures on container gardening, herbal, rain and water gardens. Learn how to set up a container garden on the window sill or a sunny patio and how to grow tomatoes , herbs, and salad mix in a bucket. A MEDICAL EQUIPMENT LENDING CLOSET (PLANNED FOR FUTURE) A Lending Closet will be created to assist seniors who may need medical equipment on a temporary basis. We would receive our equipment through donations from our community. Some of the equipment, which may be available: bath chairs, walkers, bedside commodes, crutches and raised commodes.
