Department Director,
Michael Perry welcomes you to the Wastewater Department section of City
of Charlestown.com.
The Wastewater Collection
program provides for safe collection and transmission of wastewater through
the City’s underground sewer mains, collectors and interceptor lines. The
purpose of the Wastewater division is to maintain the collection system in
such a manner that protects the public safety, health and the environment.
The City of Charlestown has
over 13 miles of gravity wastewater lines, 5.5 miles of wastewater force
mains, over 551 manholes and clean outs, and 11 wastewater pump stations.
This system collects the wastewater from residential areas and businesses,
transporting it to the City's wastewater treatment plant that consist of a
2.2 Million Gallon per/day treatment system.
The City employs 3 people to
maintain the wastewater collection system, through general maintenance and
emergency situations, 24 hours a day. We maintain the system in the
following ways: Pressure cleaning of lines, Smoke testing of lines, and
Visual Inspection of system. |
