The Charlestown City Court was established according to Indiana Code 33-35-2 et al, and is the city’s court of record.  The Charlestown City Court has jurisdiction over misdemeanor crimes, infractions and city ordinance violations administered by the city and its agents (such as the Charlestown Police Department, the Board of Public Works and Safety and Animal Control, for example).

The Charlestown City Court is currently presided over by the Honorable George Waters, currently serving a four-year elected term from Jan. 1, 2008 through Dec. 31, 2011.

The court schedule includes two sessions per month: one to hear cases of misdemeanor offenses and the other to hear cases of infractions and ordinance violations.  The misdemeanor-case court session is generally held on the third Wednesday evening of each month beginning at 6 p.m.  The infraction and ordinance case court session is generally held on the fourth Wednesday of each month beginning at 6 p.m.

The Charlestown City Court is located inside Charlestown City Hall, at 304 Main Cross Street, Charlestown, Indiana 47111.  The Clerk of the Court is  Ms. Dorothea Nickles, who can generally be contacted Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (excluding holidays and during the lunch hour of 1-2 p.m. daily), at 812-256-7130, or via email at CityCourt@CityofCharlestown.com.  Payments to the court are accepted via cash, money order or cashier’s check.  Payments can be mailed, paid at the City Hall Court Clerk’s Office or placed in the City Hall overnight drop box.
