Preliminary Improvements
Many preliminary improvements have prepared the system for this essential step in the water system’s total rehabilitation:
- New hydrants have been added and existing hydrants repaired or replaced, making effective line flushing possible.
- In 2001, a polyphosphate was added to reduce further build-up in the lines.
- In 2002, water mains were replaced in Pleasant Ridge, where more than 80% of all main line breakages occurred.
- Many more miles of water mains have been replaced within the past ten years.
- In 2006, a new elevated storage tank was built, helping to maintain consistent pressure within the system.
- In 2009, studies performed on our water system were instrumental in formulating a sustainable strategy for the city’s distribution needs.
- Recently, the ground storage tank at the high booster station was rehabilitated, eliminating another source of mineral build-up within the system.
- New feed pumps have been installed that will begin adding the product Clearitas to the distribution system on February 6, 2012.
